A medical drama series examining the professional and personal lives of the staff of Angels of Mercy, a struggling Los Angeles County inner-city hospital. The hospital's administration includes Dr. Lillian Price, a compassionate, strong-willed woman who is now the medical director and forced to deal with Ron Harris, the hospitals stern CEO, and Edwin O'Malley, the Board of Supervisors' respected chairman. Dr. Ben Turner is a talented, devoted surgeon who is determined to care for community, despite the injustices and inadequacies around him. Turner is often accompanied by rival residents, Dr. Walker and Dr. Weiss, along with an enthusiastic first-year resident, Dr. Arthur Jackson. In surgery, the doctors rely on Nurse Peeler for assistance, while Nurse Peterson keeps a level head at the nurses' station.
